WHERE WAS THE PRISONER
AIRFIELD, OR RUNWAY, OR TRACK?

airfields.jpg (79664 bytes)

The most likely location seen in the opening shots in The Prisoner

is Bovingdon airfield, west of Watford, Hertfordshire. The series

was produced at Borehamwood and other contenders were Elstree

Aerodrome, Hatfield Aerodrome and Radlett airfield.

Other submissions were the test track at
the Norfolk Lotus factory

Hethel, or M1 motorway. Also, Santa Pod raceway has been put

forward, but at 60 miles away, is less likely than Bovingdon,

where filming regularly took place 20 miles away.

MORE IN THE BOOK "THE PRISONER LOCATED"

BERNIE WILLIAMS, PRISONER PRODUCTION MANAGER:
"I think the air strip was Bovingdon.
Cannot be sure but that would be the place. I would have gone.
Radlett was too short and had a slight hill to it. Radlett was not used."
